Vampire Bride

My first attempt at making a traditional music video.

This one was an interesting experience. It was the first time I collaborated when making a video (director, camera man, actress), and it was really frustrating. Nothing went as planned, and everything got delayed over and over because we weren’t able to do the things I had planned. But it was fun at some points!

The song itself was an attempt to make something commercial and popular. Vampires were super popular, and I had noticed that lots of my fans liked “Twilight”, so I figured that I might as well try to make them really happy.
The problem with my song-writing is that I always come up with weird melodies and unusual song/chord progressions, stuff that I personally like, but that most don’t. So I composed lots of different versions of the lyrics I got from Audrianna Cole, and sent to friends to hear what they thought. And then I tried to make everyone happy, resulting in no one getting completely satisfied. Some people wanted it to be rock/metal, and some wanted it to be soft.

So yeah. I guess you could call it a complete failure, because it’s my least popular video, hehe. But some people really love the song, and as long as someone appreciates it, it’s all worth it.

Buy the song on my website or on iTunes!

Thanks. :) Yeah, I realize that some people really like it, and that’s why an updated version will be on the upcoming album!

This is a pretty good song. If they had put this in Twilight, I might actually watch it :p good going, man!

You are very talented. I like this song. It has so many changes throughout making it very easy listening.

What’s the significance of the name Fredde Gredde? G follows F in the alphabet. Is it really that simple? Just asking…no offense meant.

  • FreddeGredde (author) said:

    Thanks. :)
No, there’s no significance of the name FreddeGredde. My real name is “Fredrik”, but people call me Fredde here in Sweden. Gredde means “cream” and it’s rhyming with Fredde. So, it’s just a.. hmm.. a childish rhyme. :) Fredde Gredde. Freddie Cream, heh.

    your girlfriend? ;)

  • Wingnutdrummer said:

I think the reason you didnt like it was because you tried to please too many people. And in the end it wasn’t really your song, or how you wanted to do it. But I look forward to the “actual” freddegredde version =)

  • FreddeGredde (author) said:

Kim: No, we’re just friends. :)

  • Cassie said:

This is pretty. I had my doubts, but I really enjoyed. You created a new obsession in this girl, just letting you know.

(Not in you, but your music and your voice)

  • Alexis said:

Fredrik, the song is great and certainly has commercial potential, but never try to please anyone:) Personally, I’d love to hear more of your ‘unusual chord progressions’ and believe me, there’s enough people who also would. Do what you like and how YOU would do it and see what happens.. But when we try too hard to complete an impossible mission of pleasing others (for they’re never gonna be pleased anyway) – the result is often mediocre.. (not in the case of this song though, it is still a success!) So move on, and I’m really waiting for your album!

  • July said:

Why not girlfriend? She is very beautiful =) ;-)

  • FreddeGredde (author) said:

Alexis: That is a theory, but in order to actually make a living on music, I do believe that you have to find the right balance between accessibility and what you personally like! Especially when you have as different taste as I do. :P
It would be really mean to make an album that only I like, promote it to everyone who likes my super-commercial videos (I mean come on, I’ve mostly made covers of the most popular songs in the world), and see them get really disappointed because I only make “advanced crap”.
No, actually I’ve tried to limit my crazy self with every single song on the album, except maybe for the last one. Trying to think “okay, let’s not get carried away with the experimental things, remember that it needs memorable melodies to make anyone else like it”. I believe that’s a good thing though, because I’ve feel that I’ve created “accessible progressive rock”, which has basically not been done before. And I really like most of the songs!

    Thanks though!

July: Is love all about the looks though? ;) No, but she’s really nice, but I’m not in love with her.

  • Alexis said:

I guess you’re right.. As long as you’re personally satisfied with the result, balance is a good thing))

  • July said:

Friendship is often better than love… Don’t lose this friend!

  • FreddeGredde (author) said:

July: We have different opinions then. :) I have more friends than I need. I want to find love.

  • July said:

    You will. I believe =)

  • Clamb said:

I understand what you mean when you say that you need to try and please people if you want to be a musician, but that shouldn’t be your goal. The way I see it, a good musician needs to be a bit selfish. Before you make sure anyone else likes it, make sure you like it and have fun doing it. Your main focus should be on having a good time making your music and writing songs you like, then you can try to appeal to other people.

  • FreddeGredde (author) said:

Clamb: It’s always fun to compose though, whatever style of music it is. :) And it depends on what you mean by “selfish”. Okay, I realize that you mean “your inner musician should be the most selfish”, but by just “selfish”, you could really say that being able to make a living on music is most important/selfish thing, don’t you think?

How can this be ur least popular song?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Anarella said:

Fredde, as a professional musician you always will have to make concessions …even if it is to succeed or even to sell. However, in my opinion, as a musician will only be successful doing what you really love, from the heart. And if what you have within your heart and needs to put out is really good, you will make sucess the same way! I think you’re an extremely talented musician, charismatic and concerned about your fans, and your original songs, less “commercial” are very good. My favorite is “The Wayfarer”, I want to hear the extended version!
Anyway, I have many musician friends, so I understand what a musician’s life is like! Keep doing your great work, and remember that the person who should be happier with it is you! ;)

    Tjena Fredde.

    Take care som man säger!

hmmm… not my normal cup of tea, but I like it. You have a very Tyson Ritter-ish voice. The singer of All American Rejects FYI.
On the whole love/friendship thing, I feel ya. People always say love sometimes comes from friendship, but to me that’s a very different type of love. Love is supposed to be a spark, ya know?
By the way, don’t ever try to convince yourself your in love with a friend just because it seems like you should be :( It never works out and someone ends up heartbroken. Spoken from experience.
Anyway, if you read my previous comment before this, yes, yes I am still procrastinating :/

Karol: Hmmm.. It’s not exactly my favorite or anything. Some things related to vampires can be good. I didn’t write the lyrics though, mind you!

When you taste something new and slightly odd, and don’t know what to make of it, but you know you like it. That was my experience listening to your vocals and arrangements.

I’d almost call it an acquired taste, but since I liked it initially, and I only seem to like it more with time; Your style is more akin to a wine that grows more precious with age.

I hope you keep pursuing music! You have great talent for it!

I touch base with your site just once in a while as I don’t have a lot of time on my hands and always seem to loose track of it when I do come by. I am not into vampires at all but I think you did a wonderful job with this song. I enjoyed it despite the subject matter (lol) Please don’t ever stop what you are doing as you are very talented. Besides there are a lot of us out here who enjoy the “unusual” :o)
