More Axiom Verge.
GAMEPLAY: The level design is more frustrating this time around, with a lot of trial and error instead of “aha!” moments. The upgrades and traversal mechanics are still satisfying, if not on the same level either.
AUDIOVISUALLY: I like the music more than the original. More organic instruments, almost prog rock-like. The visuals are more pleasant than the first game, but still kind of boring.
STORY/PRESENTATION: A lot of lore that I stopped caring about pretty quickly. I’ve no idea what’s going on, basically. And then it was suddenly over.
I really loved the first game, but this one lacks the pacing, the focus and the awesome powerups. Still an alright experience if you crave some more maps to slowly uncover, metroidvania style, but it’s pretty far down on the list.
