Donkey Kong Country | 16th July, 2020 | 2:05hrs | rating: 2.5/5
Donkey and Diddy go to get their bananas back.
GAMEPLAY: The controls are snappy and fast, but there really isn’t much variation. It’s all about reacting and timing your presses as things come at you. Strange difficulty spikes too, in a game that’s mostly quite short and easy.
AUDIOVISUALLY: Not as jaw-droppingly amazing as it once was, but the visual design and atmosphere is still great, and the audio adds a lot too. Too many caves though, and most importantly, the characters are so big that it feels claustrophobic at times, as it’s so hard to see what’s coming up.
STORY/PRESENTATION: It’s a little bare-bones, with few levels and a lot of environmental repetition.
MULTIPLAYER: You cannot play at the same time, but you can take turns with one character each… No, it’s just not fun.
I never really liked this game much, and this playthrough confirmed it. The sequel is much much better!
