How about a medley with all the most memorable movie tunes, now with lyrics?
I can’t deny that the Jungle Book Medley has had disappointing views, but I guess I didn’t expect what a drop a four year long hiatus (except for one video in 2014) could do. And that it’s been four years since I posted videos semi-regularly! Crazy.
Anyway, I don’t want to give up just yet, so I went all in with this new video, worked day and night with all those background details to get it finished within a week. I want to thank Karen Graw too, for her eager help with the lyrics and collecting images for the backgrounds. Check out her graphic design work here.
I’ll keep my expectations in check this time, and simply hope that you all enjoy it. :) Feel free to share it everywhere to help it get some attention though!
(Oh, and I broke my front tooth last night when I was eating french fries. Lucky it happened AFTER filming the video. Now I should find a dentist…)
Hello FG! Thanks to the good work great video. It would be nice to add some sound effects. Why do you use acoustic guitar, classical guitar sounds softer? Especially liked the fragment 2: 19-2: 46. Thanks again! Walk straight.
Hi Niko! I considered adding sound effects, but decided to keep it clean, because if I’m gonna add it on an album or itunes or whatever, it doesn’t make sense with sound effects. Though now that I think about it, I could just use the sound effects in the video and nowhere else…. Oops. :D
As for the guitar, this is the one I’ve managed to borrow while being here in the Philippines. And some people prefer the acoustic guitar, even though I agree that the classical guitar sounds softer. Hmmm, both have their uses I guess.
Thanks!
Then try to make a video on a living plan, without animation and different overlays. Just something from yourself what something simple, beautiful melody (B) key. What risk is vovsem.Hotya my friends enjoyed your video! Generally do not be upset, you’re not a million dollars lost. (joke)
Niko: But those videos are boring. :D The fun part is animating and video editing. And I can’t imagine that a simple “just me and music” video will reach even 5k, if my ambitious videos only get 10k.
First they can be boring just need some time … Second you correctly said, “just you and the music,” I see you as a musician, not a showman. We’re good at improvising. And thirdly if there is not any other options, then this may be the last and the best.
Great video, I’ve really enjoyed the last two.
But with this medley, why didn’t you do an all-instrument cover like your video game medleys? Writing lyrics to the song kind of ruined the effect a little for me. Still, the harmonic progressions were fantastic, and I liked your choice of movies.
Also, why the switch to the steel string? I really enjoy the way you play nylon string, I feel like the way you finger pick brings out more tone on a nylon and is not aggressive enough to get the same tone on a steel.
Evan: Since I am in the Philippines, I don’t have any instruments except for a keyboard I’ve bought (to be able to work on the new album) and the acoustic guitar that I borrowed from a friend here. Maybe you are right and that I should switch back and find a classical guitar instead. I have barely thought of the difference now, but back in the days I always preferred nylon too..
Also, I’m sure a billion people have already made rock arrangements of these movie themes, so it felt more original and fun to do lyrics for them.
Thank you!
So great! Your videos are so incredible!
As for your tooth, were french fries made of stone??? And how do you feel now?
Hehe, thank you Alexandra!
No, the french fries were normal and squishy! It’s a mystery why it broke. I’m waiting for a porcelain tooth to be prepared for me though, and I’ll insert it in a few days. :)
Hi Fredde!
I loved this! Great job editing and awesome nostalgic movie choices!!
I’m sorry your views are suffering, I think you are right in your assessment that your long hiatus following a poor performance from the classical fairytale didn’t help much. Just know there are many of us out there who appreciate your work and I hope the view count won’t stop you from continuing to make medleys. If millions of views are what you’re after though you’ll have to avoid non mainstream stuff like classical music, or niche based topics.
I think you built your “brand” around videogame/pop culture then you kind of switched gears on us and went in different direction. If you want lots of views you have to give the viewers what they want! Also, you might find a way to promote your stuff- A reddit ama would be a good way to gain attention again! Either way I hope you keep going. I am big fan so I hope you understand where I’m coming from!
Very best of luck to you, at the end of all this you are still a very talented musician and that won’t change based on how successful your channel is!
I thought that the most famous movie theme songs of all time IS pop culture though… How is it different from tv themes or cartoon themes, really?
And I doubt anyone would care about me doing a reddit ama. :D
Thank though, Audrey. :)
This is definitely pop culture. I meant you should stick with this kind of stuff!
Good luck!!
I have been jamming to this medley! Nice touch on the Jaws part. I liked that. Kudos! to you and enjoy your stay in the Philippines!
Glad to see you back around Fredde! I still listen to Brighter Skies, Thirteen Eight and various medleys on a weekly basis :). I feared you might leave music for a long time, but to hear you are working on a new album is incredible! Your two recent songs on YouTube were high quality, as they always are. I hope you never stop making music… and art in general (I adore the Vulpix drawing you made when I ordered Brighter Skies).
Hey kjhovey! I kind of did leave music for a long time though, hehe. Exactly 2 years! Thank you. :)
Last video was great! Glad to see you doing music and videos again. Always been a fan of your work. Keep it up!
Fredde,
I’m writing again because I have some thoughts about why your views on YouTube are suffering. You genuinely are one of my favorite artists and YouTubers, and I want to see your popularity grow because I believe you deserve to be more recognized.
Some of the best YouTubers, it seems to me, post content DAILY. Some of them several videos a day. To build a large and consistent fan base, I would think that you need to post more content. What kind of content is up to you, but I feel as if you were to post more content, your channel would grow tremendously. This is a new trend in YouTube channels, where in the old YouTube a really good clip could go viral (Like a Cartoon Medley) and gain immense popularity. And while it still can, the most popular channels that consistently get the most views post videos constantly. That is why channels like Epic Meal Time (which used to be very popular) has lost its popularity because they only posted once a week.
Additionally, this could be why gaming YouTubers are becoming more popular, because to upload more content all they have to do is play video games. Much easier than writing a really good song.
Constantly posting content could boost popularity on your channel. I’m sorry that you haven’t seen the views you’ve been wanting, I personally am a HUGE fan. You’re very talented, and I think that you should consider this. If not, no worries, I’m half posting about my own ideas, and half posting a suggestion.
Also, in reference to why you’re pop-culture videos are not popular, consider the writing of lyrics to pieces that don’t have lyrics. In my opinion, they kind of detract from the sanctity of the melody lines. It sort of ruins it, for lack of a better explanation. Your famous medleys stayed true to the title: all of your song medleys, you sang the words, and for the video game medleys, you just played the musical themes (and very eloquently, might I add). With your classical medley and your movie theme medley, while I loved both of them after listening several times, are probably not as popular because you let down people’s expectations of the raw melody lines.
Again, I write this as a huge fan just brainstorming. Please know that I love not only your medleys and covers but also your original content. I hope you continue to make music.
Thanks for your long brainstorming message, Evan. :D I don’t think I agree with your assessment that more videos makes for more viewers. I think most things, like Epic Meal Time, lose popularity because it’s just the same old. Ideas stop being fresh after a while. (Apparently not gaming stuff though, probably because it’s the games that are important, and they keep changing.)
Anyway, I have no interest or energy to make several videos per week, or even one per week. :) I want to spend time on my videos, make something great, not just post simple things.
I agree with you about made up lyrics though, it might definitely be a part of why they are not as popular. Next time I will post a video with well-known lyrics, and see if it makes a difference.
Hi Fredde!
Please do a FreddeGredde Medley. That would really be fun. In case you’re really doing this, please feature your song “Do you”. I like the vibe that it has. I have been listening it on Spotify all day long.
Hey Mark! Hmmm, what, “do you”?! I don’t know what song that is. Link?
https://open.spotify.com/track/6fAQ72GpcUUfwGfHyWquGC I searched your name oon spotify and it appeared along with Is It Alright.
Mark: That’s not me, sorry. :D Fredrik Larsson is a common name in Sweden.
Really? My bad. It sounded like you. Anyways, thanks for the info.
Hey Freeze,
Anyway of posting the tab?? Got most of it though! Man you’ve done such an exceptional job with this. How the hell do you top this one??!!! Hahaha I said that about cartoon medley, TV shows etc….
You de Bess!!
Fredde,
Reading back through the comments, frig those dill holes just do your thing. You will get recognition you deserve…. guaranteed!!!
Oh yeah if you’re ever in Newfoundland(Canada), need a show lined up lettuce know.
Ryan
Hey Ryan!
No tabs, but the exact picking isn’t too important. :) I’ve posted the chords in the chords section, I think it should be enough!
And well, we’ll see if my next video will top it! :D I think it’s got potential. But who knows.
I’ll try to remember you if I end up Newfoundland! Thanks!
